Beethoven was a moody, misunderstood man, with more than his share of bad hair days from the portraits I’ve seen! He suffered from isolation and depression, and yet he overcame the adversity of a disability (deafness - for a musician and a composer?!), to triumph as a musical genius with an unshakeable belief in humanity. When he died, 20,000 people came to pay their respects at his funeral. He was the world’s first successful freelance musician, making his money from patrons and commissions, rather than through the royal courts or churches.
