A Statement from Stamford Symphony

Modest Mussorgsky’s magnificent Pictures at an Exhibition concludes with a movement entitled “Great gate of Kiev.” The gate stands to this day in the medieval district of Kiev and is known as the Golden Gate. Stamford Symphony will perform Pictures at an Exhibition on May 7 and 8 and will dedicate the performances to the people of Ukraine.

We recognize that the horrific events we are witnessing across Ukraine are not the doing of the Russian people. We make no apology for playing Russian music. Indeed, we must continue to play the iconic music of that great country as we remind ourselves of the unique power of music to unite, uplift and heal.

The musicians, board and staff of Stamford Symphony stand in solidarity with all those in Ukraine who are resisting aggression, and support their desire to remain free and to live in peace.
