Health and Safety Guidelines

Dear Friends of the Stamford Symphony,

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate the challenges presented to us due to COVID-19. We continue to be truly overwhelmed by all the messages, donated tickets, contributions and positive feedback about our new Stamford Symphony Channel.

As you can imagine 20/21 will be far from normal and it is with great regret that we have decided not to present any live performances at the Palace Theatre for the remainder of the calendar year. It is just not safe to do so and the result of our recent survey was very clear that our audience is not yet ready to return.

The September Roaring Twenties in 2020 program will move to the end of the season, but Music Director Michael Stern will present an online Gala in October, featuring new performances from our musicians and special guests.

Despite these difficulties, the Stamford Symphony will not be silent and the silver lining in the COVID cloud gives us the opportunity to create new and exciting online experiences. Plans are underway to bring you a new, reimagined Stamford Symphony Channel this fall, curated by Michael Stern which will replace the October and November subscription concerts with live online events and intimate recorded performances. We will announce details after Labor Day.

In December 2020 we will review where we are in relation to the chamber music and subscription concerts we have planned for January to May 2021. We will ask you again how you are feeling about coming to concerts and then make a decision on how best to present these programs or elements of them. Michael Stern is already developing programs that would allow members of the orchestra to be physically distanced onstage to keep musicians and staff members safe.

In the meantime, thank you for staying with us, we promise to provide you with a musically satisfying season, albeit different from what we planned! As soon as we know more we will let you know. I am so sorry that this is where we find ourselves.

News: The March and April concerts, and the May recital, sadly, cannot be re-scheduled this summer

Along with all our fellow performing arts organizations in Fairfield County, our hopes for rescheduling our March, April and May concerts during the summer will not be possible. All ticket holders received a communication from us that they should refer to.
The health and safety of all our patrons is Stamford Symphony’s primary concern and we continue to follow the guidelines set forth by the City of Stamford, the Connecticut Department of Public Health, the NY State Health Department, and the CDC.

What are my options with my tickets?
If you have tickets to March, April and May concerts, you may choose to do one of the following:

Support your Stamford Symphony by donating your ticket back. We will provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. Your donation will directly impact our musicians as we made the decision to compensate our musicians a portion of their fees, and with your help we can do more.
Turn your ticket into a gift card and share it with friends! Our loyal concertgoers are our best marketing tool!All gift card requests need to be made by June 15th.
Move forward the value of your tickets into the 2020-2021 season.

How can I still enjoy the Stamford Symphony?
Stamford Symphony introduced the Stamford Symphony Channel on the website. It is filled with music and interactive content with members of the Stamford Symphony including

Are you still accepting subscriptions for the 2020-2021 Season?
Yes! The Stamford Symphony has had a very healthy response to the new season and we want you all to keep the subscriptions coming in! The Stamford Symphony is considering numerous options for our safe return next season. What that will be exactly is still to be determined . Please be assured that working closely with Michael Stern, our new Music Director, we promise to deliver you the most dynamic, varied, safe orchestral experience for all. How can I help?
Thank you for all your kind emails and phone messages of support and your understanding as we navigate these uncertain times. Stamford Symphony prioritizes the health of our audience, musicians and staff first.
There are three very important ways in which you can help Stamford Symphony:

Donate your tickets back. We are happy to provide everyone with a receipt for tax purposes. The likely loss of nearly half our season will have a major financial impact to Stamford Symphony. We feel it is important to compensate our musicians. They are all freelance artists and have had most, if not all of their engagements cancelled with very little income in the foreseeable future. We are kindly asking you to consider donating any tickets for performances not taking place, back to Stamford Symphony. By doing this, you will be helping limit the financial impact to the organization and helping our musicians weather this difficult time.
Subscribing to the 2020-2021 Season! The current climate may change the details of the 2020-2021 season, but rest assured that working closely with Michael Stern, our new Music Director, we promise to deliver you the most dynamic, varied, safe orchestral experience for all.
These are trying times for everyone, including for Stamford Symphony and our musicians. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to giving you access to great music at home and providing for our staff and musicians.
